FAQ

Services

Do you perform alterations?

I can perform garment/item alterations for customers local to Buffalo, NY and the surrounding areas. For those who live further away, I might be able to do it, but I'm probably less convenient than your local tailor.

What can you make?

I can sew anything from a pattern. I've made jackets, cloaks, tunics/shirts, pants, skirts, blankets, and aprons, just to name a few. I can also make a limited number of items without a pattern, such as circle skirts.

What if there isn't a pattern for what I want?

I can find something close enough to give me a starting point and then modify it from there.

Process

Is everything hand-sewn?

Yes, I don't have a sewing machine, everything you see is done by hand.

Why don't you have a sewing machine?

I know how to use one, and actually did machine-sew a lot when I was younger. When I started sewing again, I didn't know how long this interest would last and didn't want to be stuck with an expensive machine for something I might not keep doing. Now, I don't intend to get a machine, as I enjoy the flexibility that hand-sewing affords me. By hand-sewing, I can work anywhere in my home (or when traveling), and my cats sit on my lap.

Cost and Payment

How much will [my item] cost?

I use a custom quotation spreadsheet to price each item based on materials, complexity, and time. The current order minimum is $75, based on estimating the cost of a small, relatively simple, custom item. Something like a jacket would likely be $150-200, depending on materials, size, and complexity.

When do I need to pay for my item?

Half the cost is due up front before any fabric is cut, the remainder to be paid before delivery.

May I pay for the whole thing up front?

Yes.

What payment methods are accepted?

For non-local customers, payments are processed through Paypal, which allows for a variety of electronic payment methods. For those within an hour of Buffalo, NY, cash may be acceptable.

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes, through Paypal.

Style

Your clothes are made from such busy fabrics, do you sew anything plainer?

I personally enjoy busy patterns and putting together designs which complement each other but don't exactly match in an obvious way. I make my clothes for me, but when making things for other people I follow the recipient's preferences. My clothes are made from loud fabrics, but yours don't have to be.

What is your personal style?

I'm aiming to dress like a medieval squire in modern textiles. I'm not aiming for historical accuracy, just trying to attire myself in tunics, vests, cloaks, and breeches, with the occasional vest when I need to dress more formally.
